This information is for those who just started an eBay Store -- the listing screens are similar to those you are familiar with, with minor exceptions which are illustrated below..
Keep in mind that eBay Store listings are, at the present time, only available for FIXED PRICE / BUY IT NOW sales -- you cannot list something at auction in your Sell in Store Inventory option -- which means that the price you list is the price the buyer pays for the item.

With an eBay Store you may create your own personal categories for everything you sell, including auction items, and when someone visits your store, your categories will be shown on the left with the number of items you listed under each particular category -- for example, a person interested in Baby Clothes will then be able to see all the items in that category when they click the link. My own eBay Store was created on the eBaySpain web site, so my basic store text is in Spanish although my descriptions are all in English. Think very carefully about what you choose as your personal categories -- make them as concrete and simple as possible -- a total of ten categories is sufficient in most cases -- always make your last category something like, Other Treasures / Special Bargains / My Other Items / Closeout Items / Seasonal Specials / Consignment Deals -- I think you get the idea. It is very important to note -- once you first organize your category list, if you change the original list in any way, everything already contained in that old category will now appear in the new one -- example: if your previous category#2 was Baby Clothes, and you decide to change it to Used Cars, all of the still available unended/unsold things listed in Baby Clothes will now appear under Used Cars -- until they are sold or disappear from your current seller list. There is a workaround for this slight glitch -- you can always go back and EDIT all of the old listings, changing their category on the Pictures and Details screen (eBay Step3), but it takes a lot of time -- the easiest way to change the order of some of your personal categories is to wait until all of the current items are ended/sold, then change your categories and when you list new ones, simply select the corresponding personal category. |
So if a potential bidder/buyer clicks on my TEDDY BEARS - OSITOS PELUCHA category, they are presented with a screen showing only those items, whether I have them listed at auction or as fixed price store inventory -- note that the usual eBay text is in Español, including Spanish ending times, which are several hours before ebayUSA time -- all of my own text, such as auction titles and descriptions appear as I wrote them, in English.

Compare my eBaySpain Store screen, shown above, with that of a Chinese seller from ShangHai -- he opened his eBay Store on the eBayUSA web site, and all of his store text is in English with normal eBayUSA ending times -- he writes his item descriptions in English -- here we see the items in his SILVER & BRONZE category --

Another important thing that should be mentioned about FIXED PRICE eBay Store listings -- they do not, at the present time, show up in a normal eBay SEARCH, which I find slightly inconvenient -- it is not a major problem because I have sold many things directly from the FIXED PRICE items in my eBay Store -- and you can guide / suggest / offer several links to your Seller List and eBay Store in each and every item listing, which brings the potential bidder/buyer to a complete list of your items which they can browse through -- I even include an image map containing each of my personal categories in every listing, thereby facilitating the viewer's search through my available items --

I use a really old-ish, no longer produced web page application, Adobe PageMill v3, which is usually available on eBay (search for PageMill and/or Page Mill) to make all of my listings -- there are many newer apps available for doing the same thing. I like PageMill because it is very easy and uncomplicated to use -- as with anything, it does take some practice and getting used to -- it is available for Macs and PCs -- most newer software seems to be a lot more complicated. If you look for PageMill on eBay or elsewhere, try to find the complete package, including the manual and CD.
OK, now let us see how one does an eBay Store listing --
1 - log on to eBay -- choose Sell in Store Inventory -- click Continue

2 - select your item category the way you always do -- click Continue

3 - write an item title the way you always do, then add the description in the usual space below it -- click Continue

4 - you then select your own eBay Store category -- I made 11 categories for my store -- it is important to think about it before you make your own categories -- each item that you list will be in one of your own categories which you select now -- 10 or 11 categories is a good number -- do not make too many -- even less than 10 is OK --

VERY IMPORTANT -- do NOT change the list order of the categories after you make them
After choosing your store category, you add a Buy It Now price -- I usually write a price higher than a normal auction starting bid -- this is NOT an auction, but a store price -- you must consider the best price that allows you to make some profit, naturally, yet not appear expensive
you then select a Duration -- I always select 30 days -- it only costs 2 cents!

5 - on the same page you add the URL/web address of your main item photo, and add a Gallery photo -- it only costs 1 cent! -- click Continue

6 - the next two listing screens are exactly the same as a normal listing -- Payment & Shipping -- Review & Submit
I hope that I have been of some help with your new venture in selling, and wish you Good Luck with your new eBay Store
