N O T E S

This is the 4th in the series dedicated to the "Dynamic Duo", and it seems sort of close to the movie version!

It is like a comic book, but in paperback format.

Book in GREAT Condition. Pages yellowing, as is normal on the type of paper used. Cover no longer has that "glossy" feel.

This is a NO RESERVE auction

My books are offered at a VERY below-my-cost opening bid in the hopes that I may be able to share my treasures with others. They are the result of almost 50 years of "collecting"!

Visit my website for other goodies, fossils, meteorites, and works of art, including original oils, watercolours, sketches, sculptures, limited edition graphics and other choice collector pieces by listed artists : An Eclectic Experience. http://www.Kardas.net

ART AFICIONADOS - DEALERS - to save me the YEARS it would take to put each of my several thousand ART BOOKS at auction, go to LIBRARY for information on the entire collection - and make a reasoned offer! I am usually easy to get along with!

I only ship by PRIORITY mail, with TRACKING, at cost (smaller and less heavy items would be $3.55). Depending on the final winning bid, buyer may wish INSURANCE, which would be EXTRA. MULTIPLE ITEM WINNERS MAY SAVE ON SHIPPING!!

Personal checks ALWAYS welcome.

Further information may be found at my AUCTION INFO page, including hints for successful bidding.

Foreign shipping extra. I do accept overseas cheques in the currency of the bidder's nation. It is usually CHEAPER than getting an international money order.

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR BIDDING

HaPpY 2000 !

NOT yet the NEW Millennium! ONLY 1999 years have gone by!

<<Hello,

I received the book today, and unfortunately I was very disappointed in the condition. I'm sure these were oversights. There is a strong smoke odor as if it was in a fire. The cover also looks dingy, again like fire damage. Also the first page (the teaser) was colored in with a crayon.

May I return it for a refund? If so, please e-mail me with your authorization to do so.

Thanks>>

There was NO fire, and nothing in my item description mentioned anything about how the book smells.

The description also says that the cover no longer has the shine of a new one and that the pages are yellowing - and on my own comparitive scale it was "great" - which means readable, not ripped to shreds, all the pages there, etc. for a book that is 34 years old and printed on newsprint.

I did see the red on the Penguins page but looked at it under a lupe and got the impression that it was printed that way. I do NOT mention in my item descriptions whether a book has a bookplate or owner's name anywhere, and other minor details-- I am selling a book, NOT the bookplate or red in the Penguin.

Sorry you seem so disappointed.

I figured out the apparent odor - the person who helps me get the stuff together smokes a pipe. I would imagine that EVERY item I send out must "smell" the same, BUT nobody ever mentioned it to me before and I have sent out hundreds of books thus far. If it bothers you, wrap the book in a fabric softener sheet in a plastic bag for a day and it should have a different smell. People do it with Beanies.

<<The order is not from a pipe. Their are traces of fire damage on the edge of the book. I do not pay for an item that was in or near a fire. If you don't agree to refund my money I will have to contact e-bay about this matter.

I am in the collectible business and any book or item that I send off has a ten day return period if the buyer does not like the item.

When you get this item back you place it in a a softner sheet and see if it corrects it. I did not pay for a damaged item. Also, what about the crayon marks on the page will a fabric softner remove that?

I'll pay for the shipping costs back to you.>>

The book was NOT in, near or associated with a fire during its or my lifetime.

As I said, the red on the Penguin seemed to me, through a loop, to be too well-done to be crayon-- and i did NOT say to use a fabric softener sheet on that page.

I had a pic of the cover on the auction page and you could certainly see the details in the 10 days it was up. It is NOT perfect, but I still consider it in great condition for the quality paper used.

<<Ok, I just read this crap that you sent. I grade books comics from the '40's so I know what I'm talking about. If your trying to rip me off, fine you succeeded but I will do what ever I can to make sure that I report you to e-bay and follow your future sales and warn as many people that I can.

If you doubt my evaluation I will be glad to send it off to the Comic Book Grading service. If it comes back as "great" I'll pay for the cost of getting it graded and won't say another word. This is a "poor" example of a book.

I will forward all corrispondance to e-bay if we can not resolve this situation.>>

I did NOT write "crap". I also do NOT "grade" books except according to my own comparative criteria-- and I have sold many way older books in worse condition saying that they were great according to their age and nobody complained. I also add pics so that the bidder may see what I am offering. The book I sent you did NOT have "fire damage" of any kind on it, and I did say that the cover did NOT have the "shine" they usually have, probably due to handling.

Meddling in a seller's bidders is NOT allowed on eBay, and I find your obvious threat somewhat amazing.

I also don't think your use of "crap" is appropriate. I'm NOT ripping you or anyone else off, and describe my stuff as well as I can.

*** Afterword ***

That same day he put a NASTY negative for me, just as I had a nice letter ready to be sent out with his payment, including postage, and telling him that he may keep the comic book and give it to some kid who does not have the $$ to buy his GRADE A "merchandise". Hey, you can not win them all!

<<I feel really bad about the book which you seem to find fault with. Although I am not, unfortunately, as expert in these things as you apparently are (ask me about fossils or shells or science, and I might know a tad more than you!), I do know that the book was NEVER in or near a fire, and that the smoke you smelled is from a pipe-smoker (Captain Black, black and white package).

And I really thought that the red color was printed and NOT made by a person after obtaining the tome, and did look rather carefully at it through a 10x jeweler's loop.

In good faith I am returning your total cost and you may retain the book and give it to some kid who may be interested in it and not have enough money to buy something from you. He might like it for the same reason I did - NOT because it is "officially" graded or whatever, rather because it is a kewl book, and probably related to the movie.

Sorry for the inconvenience and hastle.

Sonny>>
