Evelio told me that the source of the watercolour told him that the scene represents Israeli refugees in an encampment at the founding of the State of Israel (Palestine?), where they had camps of large round tents with a domed top. |

Reiss was a Painter, Illustrator, Etcher and Lithographer - listed in Fielding and Mallett. I have one other work by Reiss on this same theme, same format, same frame-style. The frame is VERY unusual and QUITE heavy. It seems like OLD oak (9 cm wide), with wormsholes, sculpted to form -- the label on the back reads "a HEYDENRYK frame", from New York. ![]() Shipped framed, in the original frame. |
