About My Art Collection |
Evelio was an award winning sculptor who acquired art works of all kinds from collectors and artists around the world, often in trade or commission for busts or sculptures he would do for them. He had a very classical art education and was extremely knowledgeable when it came to art and authenticity. After every trip he would return with paintings, drawings, prints, porcelains and other treasures -- he only showed me a few of them during those years, and when I would ask him about some of them, he was almost secretive regarding from whom he obtained many of them, as if the former owner didn't want it known for whatever reason (that was my impression). When he died I discovered a stash of art works in storage, many of which I had never seen before, some of which had a smallish hand written note associated with the item but only giving minimal data. I made an attempt to catalogue them 10+ years ago but never finished the project. I can only include in my item descriptions those things which I am able to observe -- references about an artist were obtained from my accessable art references. |

About This VERY RARE Limited Edition Aquatint Suite |
Only one of the four aquatints is illlustrated above -- the other three works in the Black Tulips suite which I have in my collection are -- #2 -/- #3 -/- #4 -- they should be purchsed en suite. ALL are in the same format, same placement of the signature, exact same small edition number, and are framed in the same manner. It is framed in a simple glossy finish black wood frame having an apparently acrylic front, thus it may be transported easily without breakage. The back of the frame has several labels attached -- the masking tape has become loose / torn in several places, possibly in transport -- I have never opened it or taken the aquatint out of its original frame -- the backing board onto which the print is floated appears to be of some kind of foam or composition board, a few flakes of which have migrated between the acrylic sheet and the paper of the art work due to transport -- since I have had it, it has moved three times when I did over the years --
the label at the top right is from the Walker Art Center, giving the details of the print / suite, and where it was exhibited in 1984 and 1985 --
beneath that, in the lower center is what appears to be an auction catalogue estimated selling price referring to the sale of this particular Black Tulips suite at Sotherby's in New York [?]
