An Introduction

I guess the first art item I could say that I added to my then fledgling collection was a WORLD CLOCK that I asked Aunt Anna to get for me, with her employee discount of course (at Wanamakers in Philadelphia) , when I was about 15 years old. That was a loooooooong time ago -- even Wanamakers is gone now, A Great Store in a Great City! I still have that beautiful timepiece sitting on my mantle!

Since then I have lived, studied, collected innumeraable eclectic pieces, and taught for extended periods in (not simply traveled to -- there is a big difference!) Bonn, Hannover, München and Wilhelmshaven in Germany; Madrid, Santander and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, El Hierro and Tenerife (Canary Islands) in Spain, and for shorter periods on research trips to Reykjavik, London, Glasgow, Nice, Monaco, Brussels, Paris, Rome, Naples, Athens, Amsterdam, Utrecht; Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Eilat in Israel; Ceuta, Tetuan, Fez, Melilla and El Jebha in Morocco, and numerous cities and towns throughout Spain. In contrast I have probably visited, briefly, about 8 of the States in the U.S., and have lived in only two, Pennsylvania and New Jersey!!

I have discovered things that complemented my rather extensive interests in all of these places, and added them to the collection, often at great sacrifice. They now provide a soul warming, contemplative atmosphere to my somewhat overly eclectic "monastery"/ museum-like home.

My former business partner, Evelio Delgado, was a Spanish sculptor who traveled extensively both in the United States and abroad. He knew many artists and collectors and always returned from a viaje with many new acquisitions, either bought, traded or received as gifts. He was awarded the First Prize (out of 19 competitors) in the prestigious 7th Annual James Wilbur Johnston Sculpture Competition sponsored by the Art for Humanity Foundation at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in 1985. He died of AIDS on 24 July 1991 (possibly resulting from an operation he had for nasal sinus polyps during which he had a blood transfusion) and I am still sorting through the works, many of which I did not even know we had! Many of his sources remain unidentified as he told me several times that various individuals did not want their names connected to a particular art work -- for whatever reason.

It is fascinating to turn around anywhere at home, being totally immersed in the art works which literally surround me. I can actually sense the history and vibes from these treasures! They transport me to distant times, to the artists' atelliers, and craftsmens' workshops in exotic foreign lands, many of which I have not yet visited, and I can feel all the excitement and intrigues of these wonderful places. It is sort of like a spiritual time machine!!

In the following pages you will meet some of my constantly inspiring companions. Many different styles and media are represented.

The listed art works are all available for sale. Make a reasoned offer.
